Enrichment Scholarships for Children

As we settle in the groove of Ocean City’s “second season” and back-to-school time, The Red Doors website has been buzzing with activity.  Classes are filling up and we are rapidly approaching our Grand Opening celebration on September 27th from 4-6 pm and our first day of class on October 1st.

During last week’s meeting of the staff of St. Paul’s By-The-Sea, we were discussing all of the preparations that needed to be made.  With each item crossed off the to-do list, it seems that three more practical considerations must be added.  Amid the flurry of planning, I took a moment to lament that I hadn’t yet found the time to focus on the free programs and service initiatives that I was most eager to develop. After reflecting on this for a few minutes, our sexton, Joe Fisher, asked how he could go about sponsoring a child who wanted to take guitar lessons.  This stopped me in my tracks.  While the intention to offer financial aid for our fee-based programs was always an important aspect of The Red Doors mission, I had put scholarships on the back burner as something that couldn’t be done until we secured a grant for that purpose later in the year.

Joe’s desire to sponsor a student was energizing.  Why wait?  Why not use direct donations from members of the community specifically to fund scholarships for children who wish to participate in our enrichment programs but may not have the means to enroll in a fee-based class?

I am excited to announce that we will be accepting applications immediately, on a rolling basis, from families who wish to request assistance in enrolling their child in an enrichment program.  While we cannot guarantee that funds will always be available, we hope to extend full and partial scholarships to as many local children as possible.  To request an application, please use the contact form. Please share this information with families you know that might benefit from this offering.

To support our scholarship initiative, you can donate to The Red Doors using PayPal’s secure site by clicking here.  The Red Doors Community Center at St. Paul’s By-The-Sea is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.  Your donation will be used to sponsor a local child’s participation in an enrichment program of their choice such as art history, ballet, jazz dance, fencing, environmental science, Kindermusik, guitar, violin, cooking, yoga, or sewing at The Red Doors.  Scholarship funds may also be used to sponsor young expectant mothers who wish to participate in our Prenatal Education classes. Thank you for your generosity, vision, and support!
